Microwave Sesame Seed laddus in just a minute and half!

Sesame laddus have always been hard on the teeth and as I grow older, I have been nervous about biting into them. So my joy knows no bounds when my experiment for these laddus succeeds! I could not wait to share this with you all!

This recipe makes the most authentic tasting sesame laddus with a texture that is crunchy, crispy, chewy and  just exquisite….not to mention , ‘easy on the teeth’.

Make sure you have your basic mixture of roasted sesame seeds, peanuts and dalia (roasted chana dal) ready.

So here is the recipe.

Microwave Sesame Seed Laddu in 1 ½ minutes

  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients-

For the sesame seed mixture-

  • ½ cup sesame seeds, roasted until fragrant
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts, lightly crushed
  • ¼ cup dalia (roasted chana dal), lightly crushed
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • A small pinch of salt

For the syrup-

  • ¼ cup jaggery cut into very small pieces
  • 1/8 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon water

To roll laddus-

  • Ghee to grease palms

To make the Microwave Sesame Laddus in 1 ½ minutes-

  1. Combine the sesame seed mixture and set aside.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl or pie dish add the jaggery, molasses and water. Stir well and microwave for 1 minute.
  3. Microwave for 30 seconds again. The syrup reaches hard ball consistency at this point. To test this, in a bowl of water put a fat drop of the syrup. Roll it between your fingers and drop it on the counter or a hard surface. It should be of hard consistency, making a small sound when dropped.
  4. Mix in all of the sesame mixture and combine well with the syrup.
  5. Grease your palms well with the ghee and roll the laddus.
  6. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.

Enjoy!

Love,

Sandhya

Tip- The timing given is in my 1000W drawer microwave.Microwave timings vary so you may need to adjust timings according to your microwave.

    1. Thanks Loretta! I am the short cut queen I think:) I am so happy when my quick and easy recipe experiments work. I was especially happy with these because for years and year I did not make these laddus because the type of jaggery needed for these laddus is not available in the US. then when I suddenly had this thought of combining jaggery and molasses, I had to try them right away.
Do you get supercharged with an idea too?

      1. Sandhya I tried this recipe using brown sugar instead of jaggery and it came out good! I also tried my own recipe that I used before with sugar and honey also in the microwave this time and that also came out great. thx for the microwave idea 🙂

      2. Indu, thank you so much for letting me know. Based on your recipe for sugar and honey, do you think substituting honey for the molasses in my recipe would work well too? Some readers asked me if they could substitute the molasses and I wrote saying they could use honey, but that I had not tried it myself.

      3. Just checked out your recipe Indu. Looks great. There are so many variations in the sesame chikki/vadi and laadu recipes, right? I want to try the jaggery honey combo once too:)

    1. Molasses is called Kakvi in Marathi. It is liquid syrupy in form and is a by product when .making jaggery. Yes it is available in stores. In the US I get a brand called Grandma’s molasses

  2. Hey,what is the substitute for molasses? I tried using brown sugar but somehow only formed 2ladoos and rest had to set in a tray to make squares..why did it happen.

    1. Manju, we used to love it in India. It is called kakvi in Marathi. It is sold bottled . It is a by product – 100 percent sugar cane juice, when making jaggery. It gives an authentic jaggery taste so I used it.Honey could be used but I have not used it, so not sure of the result.
