Happy Makar Sankrant everyone! “Tilgul ghya goad bola ” in Marathi, literally means “Please accept this tilgul and speak sweetly “. What it signifies is renewing friendship and making new friends. The sesame seeds and jaggery denote the warmth and sweetness of friendship. According to Ayurveda, these foods are good for the body during winter, so exchanging these particular sweets is like looking after each other’s health as well. In the old days, sweets were eaten only on special days such as festivals. This is also the winter harvest festival when sugarcane is harvested. The harvested veggies and tubers are used in a mixed vegetable dish called Bhogichi bhaji, the day before Sankrant, which is called Bhogi.

Winter harvest vegetables in a hearty, vegan, gluten free, vegetarian stew/bhaji with peanuts and sesame seeds. Easy Indian heirloom festival recipe.
Bhogichi Bhaji– A celebration of the winter harvest for Sankranti festival.

This collection is inspired by the overwhelming response to Indfused’s Sankrant recipes. I am so happy to share all the tilgul recipes I have developed to make even an amateur look like a pro! There is also a no cook, food processor tilgul!

So here is to renewing our friendship!
