Edible Rakhi for a Yummy Raksha Bandhan

2 ingredient, yummy rakhi that kids of all ages will enjoy making!

Rakhis are special bracelets sold for Raksha bandhan. It is special day of celebrations for brothers and sisters. Rakhi symbolizes the loving and protective bond between the brothers and sisters.

Generally Rakhis are made of a medallion made of beads, shiny paper, cardboard and/or plastic and tied with a tasseled thread. The sister ties the rakhi around her brother’s wrist and offers him something sweet to eat. The brother gives his sister a gift and wears the rakhi proudly for the day!

This year I decided to make an edible rakhi again. Last year Indfused featured An Edible Rakhi- Strawberry Halwa in Chocolate Cups, which was so well received.

This year I decided to use marzipan. I found the marzipan at IKEA.

Edible Rakhi for a Yummy Raksha Bandhan

It comes in a beige/almond color. To color the marzipan, I used Wilton’s concentrated food colors that come in a paste form. The liquid colors may thin the marzipan. You just need a tiny bit that has to be kneaded in, so the color is uniform throughout.

Kids of all ages can have fun making these rakhis, don’t you think? The marzipan is like edible play dough. Do try these. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as the kids!
